Darrah, the worlds most traveled filmmaker, for an inspired journey through
Portugal & Spain.
Lovely Lisbon is
Portugal’s capital, and it is one of Europe’s most charming and unique cities.
Built around seven hills, Lisbon’s magnificent baroque architecture was largely
constructed with the riches garnered from the Asian spice trade in the 1700s.
We then travel to Sintra, the lovely hill town an hour outside Lisbon. Sintra’s
charming old streets are lined with beautiful Baroque-style homes and mansions.
Then, a tour of the royal palace - the town’s crown jewel – will be the
highlight. On to Fatima, an important religious pilgrimage town, north of
Lisbon. Finally, we visit Cascais, a pretty resort town on the shores of the
Atlantic, and a desired vacation spot for the Portuguese.
Located in a
place that should belong to Spain, the famous British Crown Colony of Gibraltar
stands at the northern side of the Gates of Hercules – the narrow passage
between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Journey up to the Rock of Gibraltar
itself, with its hairy inhabitants – the Barbary Apes; then to the Moorish
castle; and walk the city’s quaint and narrow pedestrian lanes, lined with
British-style pubs, duty-free shops, and many half-timbered restaurants.
The city of
Seville lies at the heart of the most fascinating region in Spain – Andalusia.
Here we explore the Tower of Gold; Plaza de Toros (bullfight stadium); the
great Seville Cathedral and La Giralda tower; Plaza Virgen de los Reyes and the
royal Alcazar Palace; see the colorful Plaza de España and other beautiful
squares, palaces and avenues. The city of Granada is the jewel city of lovely
Andalusia. We will walk the maze of intriguing and narrow shopping streets
around the cathedral; see the Moorish quarter – the Albaicin; and tour the
gardens and fountains of the Generalife, overlooking Granda; and finally marvel
at the incomparable beauty of the Alhambra – where the Moors created their idea
of paradise on Earth. From there we travel to the visually rich Spanish coastal
cities of Valencia and Malaga; and to the beautiful Spanish island city of
Palma de Mallorca. Then north to the rugged and beautiful Costa Brava region,
and to the town of Cadaques. Nearby is Barcelona, a city that sizzles with
creativity and inspiring sites, from medieval to contemporary.
include the Old Town and Las Ramblas; the Gothic Quarter; Antoni Gaudi’s unique
Modernista buildings – like the Sagrada Familia and Casa Mila; the lively
Boqueria market; and the seaport and lovely Mediterranean beaches.
