Pennington Dance Group
October 6 @ 8 p.m. | Tickets $22/$10 | Marsee Auditorium
The Pennington Dance Group is a southern California based modern dance company celebrating eighteen years of dance performance, education, and community engagement.
The PDG will perform new work and audience favorites that include the award-winning Out Of that incorporate stunning scenic panels by artist Susan Rankaitis and original score by Edgar Rothermich. Committed to keeping seminal historic work vibrant for today’s audiences, the powerful duet, The Beloved, created in 1948 with co-choreographer credits to Bella Lewitzky and Lester Horton, takes a stark and chilling look at the tie that binds. Company of Orbs takes its choreographic cue from ten large orbs that dominate the stage in what the LA Times calls “accomplished choreography that is a jaunty joy.” Pennington’s newest work, Ungoverned Spaces, with score by Grammy nominated Tom Peters, reflects the disjointed times in which we live where form, function, and sense-making seem to be out of reach. “Pennington makes modern dance vibrant and relevant, in all its splendid weightiness and dramatic vocabulary.” LA TIMES
